Please see your telegram No. 201 of the 19th instant.

Please inform His Majesty's Consul-General at Shanghae that he is authorized to accept the settlement proposed by the Taotai. It seems, however, desirable that the terms should be placed on record officially in some way.

This might be done either by your officially informing the Chinese Government of the settlement or by any other method which you may consider preferable.
